Walking in Peace

Walking in Peace

December is a beautiful time of year, but let’s be honest—it can also be chaotic. Between holiday planning, crowded stores, and tight schedules, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or find yourself in moments of tension with others. Yet, as followers of Christ, we’re called to rise above the frenzy and embody His peace.

The Call to Be a Peacemaker

In the Beatitudes, Jesus says:
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)

Being a peacemaker isn’t just about resolving conflicts; it’s about carrying an attitude of peace wherever we go. It’s choosing calm over chaos, understanding over frustration, and kindness over impatience. This peace isn’t something we create on our own—it’s a gift from God that flows through us when we trust Him fully.

Finding Inner Peace in Christ

Before we can share peace with others, we need to cultivate it within ourselves. Here are some ways to find that calm:

  1. Pray Regularly: Spend time with God each day, asking Him to fill your heart with His peace. Reflect on His promises and let them anchor you.
  2. Surrender Your Worries: Whether it’s holiday stress or personal struggles, hand over your concerns to God. Remember Philippians 4:6-7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
  3. Embrace Gratitude: A thankful heart shifts our focus from problems to blessings, opening the door for peace to grow.

Sharing Peace with Others

Once God’s peace fills your heart, it naturally overflows into your interactions. Here are a few practical ways to be a peacemaker this season:

  • Offer Grace: If someone’s stressed or snippy, respond with kindness instead of irritation.
  • Listen Well: Take time to hear others out, especially during moments of tension. A listening ear can diffuse conflict before it starts.
  • Spread Joy: A smile, a kind word, or a simple act of service can brighten someone’s day and create a ripple effect of positivity.

A Season to Shine

As you move through this busy season, let your peace shine as a reflection of Christ. When others see your calm amidst the chaos, they’ll be drawn to the source of your serenity—Jesus Himself.

Reflection: What areas of your life could use more peace today? Ask God to fill those spaces with His presence, and look for opportunities to share His peace with those around you.
