Fear Not: A Father’s Reflection on God’s Light and Salvation
Share
As a dad, life is a mix of joy, responsibility, and—let’s be honest—worry. Whether it’s teaching a toddler to sleep through the night, guiding a teenager through their first big decision, or figuring out how to keep everything running smoothly, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But in moments when life feels chaotic, I find peace in these words:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
The Light That Guides Us
I think of God’s light like a flashlight in the dark. As a dad, I want to be that steady light for my kids—to guide them, protect them, and show them the way forward. But the truth is, I don’t always have all the answers. Sometimes I feel like I’m walking in the dark myself.
That’s where God’s light comes in. He’s the one who lights my path when I’m unsure or anxious. When I turn to Him in prayer, I’m reminded that I don’t have to do this alone. His light shows me the next step, even if I can’t see the whole road ahead.
Strength for the Everyday Battles
Parenting has taught me more about fear than I ever knew before. It’s not just about scraped knees or late-night fevers; it’s about bigger things—raising kids in a world that can feel overwhelming. What if I make the wrong choice? What if I can’t protect them from every hurt?
Psalm 27:1 reminds me that I don’t have to live in fear. God is my stronghold. He’s my fortress in the chaos, my strength when I feel weak. I can trust Him to be there for me—and for my kids—no matter what.
Teaching My Kids to Trust God
One of my greatest hopes as a dad is to help my kids see that same light and salvation in their own lives. With my little ones, it’s about simple prayers at bedtime, thanking God for the day. With my teens, it’s conversations about trusting God when things don’t go as planned or when life feels uncertain.
And honestly? It’s about showing them that I trust God, too. When they see me turn to Him for guidance, it becomes real for them.
A Father’s Prayer for Peace
If you’re a dad like me, you’ve probably felt the weight of fear creeping in. Today, let’s lay those fears at God’s feet. Let’s trust Him to be our light when we feel lost, our salvation when we’re worried, and our stronghold when life feels heavy.
Take a moment to pray this with me:
“Lord, thank You for being my light and my salvation. Help me trust You more each day, especially as I lead my family. Let my kids see Your peace and strength in my life. Guide me as I guide them, and remind me that You are always in control. Amen.”
